Dirt and yelling

Today was the first day this year that we were able to play in the backyard! At first I didn't like it very much because the ground is all bumpy unlike the floor inside. I eventually realized that I could deal with that long enough to get to some toys.

Then I found out that the dirt in the garden felt different than the grass. This is very interesting.

Mommy wanted to take some "before" pictures of the garden, so she dared to take her full attention away from me for approximately seven seconds. This is, of course, completely unacceptable. I held onto the fence and inched my way around the garden, all the while loudly voicing my discontent, until I reached Mommy.

I went directly into the tub when we went inside.

The mean face

How can this not make you smile?

I try to copy Ben by smiling and saying "cheese" when I get my picture taken. It comes out like "eeeeeee" and I make this face.

Who's so handsome?

I was looking a little shaggy so Mommy took me to get my first haircut.

Don't I look like such a big boy?

Learning how to be a big boy

If you haven't seen me in awhile, you wouldn't even recognize me now! I am getting so big, probably because I eat constantly. My favorite snacks are cheerios, baby mum-mums and freeze dried strawberries. If I can get my hands on some chocolate, I am a big fan of that as well (see picture).

I've learned how to say "more", "please" and "all done" in sign language and I usually use these in relation to food. I also know the sign for "duck" which I do whenever I read my favorite book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" I like to growl whenever I see any type of animal besides a duck. When I see a duck, I try to quack.

I am starting to learn some words in English also. My first word was "ball" which, by strange coincidence, was also Ben's first word when he was my age. I also say "Ben", "done", "cracker" and something resembling "brother" and "diaper". I try to say "Benjamin" when I am in a more formal mood. I'll sometimes throw in a "Mama" or "Dada" but it's generally all about the Benjamins.

I am very good at stacking toys and putting things on top of other things. Ben says that I am learning how to be a big boy.

I am getting ready to take steps any day now. I can get around pretty quickly while holding on to the furniture and the wall. I like to stand on my own but I know I can get around faster by speed crawling so I haven't attempted any unassisted steps yet. Mommy and Daddy suspect that I will be like my brother in this respect as well. As soon as I get going, I won't stop!

It's Alive!

Last weekend I took my first trip to the Museum of Science and my first ride in the backpack. At first I was a little nervous about the big, huge dinosaurs despite how excited Ben seemed to see them.

When I realized the dinosaurs weren't moving, I started to get bored.

On the walk down the bike path back to our car, Ben insisted that Daddy hold him even though he was already carrying me. Good thing Daddy works out.

Saturday art

This weekend I took a trip to the ICA with my family. I spent most of the time in my stroller, but I got out to enjoy the harbor view from the big, big windows.

Posing with Mommy.

My sleepy reflection (art is hard).
